Need advice EA81T wagon **EDIT** IT FINALLY WORKS!!!

Recommended Posts

My turbo wagon starts and runs fine now. The shop I had rebuild my motor put the plug wires in the wrong spots on the disty. Now I have a new problem. The car has NO power before 2700rpm. I think it has to do with the ignition, but I'm not sure. We set the timing at 15* BTDC and it ran the same way, but with less power. We advanced it to about 20* BTDC and it is the same, but a little more power. I cannot even drive up a slight grade! The vacuum advance is hooked up as is all the ignition stuff. One question I had is about setting the timing. This tag under the hood http://usmb.net/gallery/album215/IMG_08262?full=1 says to disconnect the 2-pole connector under the coil. This: http://usmb.net/gallery/album215/IMG_08282?full=1 Is the only connector with 2 poles that I can see anywhere around the coil. Can anyone help me?

P.S. It also backfires a little. Not HUGE backfires, but noticable skips in the idle.

You have the right connector.

Disconnecting it disables the 5 degree ignition advance

at altitudes above 4600 ft.

Makes no difference when setting timing at sea level.

If you are able to set timing to 15-20 degrees ,you are not

a tooth off.

I would check the centrifugal advance.

Well, I lined up the crank to TDC and the disty was pointing at #1 on the disty cap. This car is getting on my nerves! How do I check the centerfical advance?

Easy,Disconnect the vac. advance hose,Watch the timing mark w/light.

If timing advances w/rpm increase centrifugal advance is working.

Well the shop I had rebuild my engine put the plug wires on wrong. They were arranged 1-4-2-3, waaaaaay off, I know. Then my dad changed them to 1-2-3-4. Silly old man! I figured that he had them right and I spent half the day trying to set the timing on a car that couldn't hold a stedy idle with the timing light connected! Now its done, and its the best car EVER! Matt, you missed out!
