Intermittent Speedometer Operation

The speedometer in my '99 OBW (automatic transmission) works intermittently. The CEL is not illuminated, and wiggling the wires between the speedo head, computer, and transmission have no effect. Any suggestions regarding diagnosing this malady will surely be appreciated!
