Help with Radio/CD Player in 98 Forrester (S series)

Recommended Posts

Hi all:

HELP!! I have a Soney radio/cd player I want to use to replace the factory installed radio/tape player. Of course I need to attach each wire because sony doesn't make an adapter. I need info on what each wire going into the back of the radio is for. There are 13 active pins in the subaru plug. I need to know which pin is + front speaker (left), - front speaker (left), power, ground, etc. where can I find this information or do you know it and can relay it to me?

Thanks in advance and please either respond here or to my email at moreytg@hotmail.com

Thanks again,

Todd

Goto a local stereo shop and get the wiring kit. This will make it so you can plug into the factory plug and not have to cut the factory wires. These will also be marked for what wires do what. Much better way to install. Cost like $15 dollars.

I actually have one from my old car if you need on let me know.

RIchard,

Thanks for the help. I already contacted Sony and they said they don't make a wiring kit. I didn't think that a stereo shop would have one if Sony doesn't make it...guess I was wrong. Anyhow, I went to the Subaru dealer and they provided me a wiring diagram. I have all the wires hooked up, they check on the volt meter ok and the stereo still doesn't work!! I'll be returning the inop one to get a replacement tomorrow.

Cheers,

Todd

Sony, Kenwood, JVC, etc never make adapters. Next time goto a shop and get the wiring adapter or call a company like crutchfield. They all have adapter for every car. It is a plug on one side that goes into you factory wiring loom, then wires on tother that you hook to the wires from your deck.

These are for my 96 legacy, and should probably be the same. I'm thinking it's pretty much an industry standard, but who knows. It's easy enough to test with a volt/ohmmeter.

Blue/Red stripe 12 Volt fused

Green/Orange stripe Antenna control
