I replaced the Impreza RS turbo with an STI

Recommended Posts

Hey, wanna throw some of that money my way??? :slobber:

Actually, the money for the upgrades has never really been what's stopped me from doing things to mine. Its the money to replace the motor when it decides to let go, or the trans, or the rear diff, or the halfshafts. (Be careful with those rear halfshafts. They appear to be the first weak link in the driveline)

Vishnu's site has never been updated to include just what the stage 3 kit will cost, include, or how much power it will put down. Care to share some of those details with us?

Also, did you debadge the car or did the previous owner. (I can see it's a 2004 and all the dealers around hear don't have any '04s left so I'm assuming you bought this used)

Sure, he has allot that isn't on his site, you have to call. He has the Stage II for about 4600 and that is your starting point. Add to that the IC, even larger injectors, turbo porting, headers/uppipe, boost management to handle the extra to reach the stage III level. About 7 k give or take.

So what is that good for at the wheels? About 420hp?

I am shooting for about 450 at the crank, so perhaps just a bit less than that

at the wheels. I hate to suggest an outcome until it is tuned on a dyno.

Stage 2 on the WRX gives you about 350 crank, so I would think the extra displacement of the STI motor and the stage 3 kit should get you there.

I am a scientist in the space program, in specific I control spacecraft, in loose terms I am a rocket scientist. I have been trying to find that bumper sticker that says "Why yes, I am a rocket scientist. It pays ok, but not as much as you are probably thinking. If you want to sign up, see your local recruiter and serve your country before you serve yourself. That is what I did and I have the education, life experience, background and even the connection to get the interview because of it. The Air Force actually has spacecraft controller positions for enlisted personel, sign up for that and after 4 years of paying your dues you can expect to start at 50-60k as a junior controller, even without school. Add in college and a few years on the job at a civilian company and it goes higher.

I know being an MCSE isn't like being a rocket scientist but I make 75K a year and drive a $700.00 1990 Legacy wagon. I bought it from the salvation army. The money went to a good cause and I got a good little car. If I had $7K kicking around I would buy my kids some sweet toys and buy another legacy or two. Maybe even a used impreza or outback if the price was right. I am not saying that people can't spend their money however they see fit...I just think the person who posted this thread and the other people on here are few and far between.

I hope your $7K got you a sweet setup, radar detector and a lifetime supply of admission to your local track ....where else can you use all that power? Passing someone? In a hurry to get that parking space at the mega-low mart?

Those were my two cents. I am sure you wish I just kept it in my pocket.

I would love an STi.. But even more fun would be getting say a 95 Impreza, or even a 98 2.5RS, and stuffing a JDM WRX STi motor in thre, and only haveing to pay the insurance for 95 impreza, and being able to spank an STi, and be able to put some money away for later things such as when it comes time to put my kids in college.

I apologize for any harsh things I might have said. I do not appreciate when people can not take constructive critisism. We are all adults here. Just because we have expensive toys does not mean we should have the mentality of our children.

As for my comment on Nasa. I saw the shuttle challenger explode. I was in the third grade in Titusville, FL. I went to the school named after said shuttle. I have friends and family that work there and I think they are doing a fine job. Hell, my daughters grandfather is the guy that gives all shuttles lifting off from FL the final inspection and my cousin is on their swat team. Yall work very hard I am sure you are good at what you do. If I didn't have a criminal record I would be out there too.

Eh, to some degree, pics of various work and such, but my roots are old school, BRATs are a rung above ANY modern Subaru. I have a finate ammount of time and I am struggeling to keep the BRAT's site up to date and add new material. I just don't have the time to document the STI in the same detail. I am also trying to add the BRAT shifter kart work as well as starting to build details of all things BRAT, kits, R/C, go karts, stompers etc.

What I want to know is how is the brat on the highway? Can it get a pretty good top speed? Whats are the gear ratios? I had an 88 Toyota pick-up with the stock 4 banger, 21 inches of lift and 44's but I was also running 4.56 gears. Wasn't the fastest off the line but it could do 50-60 with little trouble.
