k-fuzzy
1991 Subaru Legacy 2.2L 4 cylinders New Rad, New Failsafe Thermostat, New water pump, New Timing belt (runs water pump). With thermostat removed you get full flow through engine. As soon as thermostat is installed flow to heater hose stops and engine overheats. All air bleed out over two days through rad and heater hose. Engine has been flushed with acid running through system for two days. Engine ran all summer long without thermostat and never came close to overheating. Any advise on the subject would be appreciated. coloradosubarules
A word to the wise. Go to your nearest Subaru dealer, spend the extra cash, get an OEM Stat and make sure it is put in facing the correct way. You will not believe how many times these things are put in wrong. While you are at the dealer have a tech show you which is the correct way. This should help.
Setright
Holy smoke! You've spent a large sum of money on this. A few things could still be wrong: I hate to underestimate anyone, but are you certain the thermostat is being installed the right way up? The spring and wax chamber should be on top, inside the water pump. Assuming the acid clean has worked and flow throughout the entire system is good, then I would start to suspect a internal leak from a head gasket. Try having the coolant tested for signs of HC or CO.
coloradosubarules
Didn't I just say the same thing? Except for the scientific stuff about acid.
Legacy777
As it's already been stated.....go get a subaru OEM t-stat. I had weird overheating/engine temp issues with an aftermarket t-stat. There are some threads out there with more info. Just search.
