Sun Roof Drains

Apparently one or more of the drain tubes for my sunroof are blocked.. what is the best/easiest way to clean them out?oh yeah.. its the car in the sig

 

... Didn't see anything about it in the undewear manual..

As far as I can remember, there are not any drains in the sun roof.

Sure there are. Theres rubber hoses (2), usually at the back of the opening. I believe they run down the B pillar, if not there, they come down the pillar of the back door and side window and out the fender well. As to unplugging them, I would be a little hesitant to rotor router them, you could pack em tighter. Maybe a pressurized stream of water(not to much) could force the crud out. Once you get them cleaned out, the best thing to do is keep the area around the sunroof clean.

Dennis is right in my job I clear about 3 drains a week and they usually take about 5 minutes each. I use air pressure 1 caution factory sunroofs have drains Dealer add ons usually dont . roosofallevil :evil:

there should be 4 hoses total, one at each corner of the sun roof to each corner of the car.

there are 2 at the front, very easy to get to. Where are the rear two? i've never actually tried to get to them...how far back are they?

I have heard that too much air pressure will pop the hoses inside the car and cause leaks.

don't try pressure or a roto-rooter first as the hose could shoot off its drain line or get damaged. My hoses were plugged at the bottom; I fished around gently with some stiff (solid core) wiring, 8 gauge, I think. It went in most of the way, so i figured the leak was near the bottom. This is how I unclogged mine:

There's a kick panel in front of each of the two front seats. They'll come off easily. I think there's some sort of catch though so pay attention when you remove them.

Move the wiring harness around a little until you can see the black plastic drain tube. You will notice that it is seated in a channel of sorts. pull it out and use some tweezers or a hemostat or something to get the crap out of there. (At this point, I put the hose in a bucket in the footwell, and poured water into the sunroof (with a towel ready ) to make sure the drains were clear.) Then insert the tubing back into its channel.. you'll have to push it in. Put the panels back on and the fronts are done.

The rears are even easier. Take off the rectangular panels next to the tailgate (wagon owners only, I don't know where the sedans' drain to in back) and you should be able to see the hose. Pull it up and out, maybe stick a mirror in there if you want to see.. unclog it the same way, and replace it. Test it again (maybe with the front of the car jacked up) to make sure you won't collect rainwater in your car somewhere.
