TRIPOWER
Hi I just purchased my first Subaru, a 2005 Forester last week. Besides regular fluid changes, what other items should I be aware of to keep this car for many miles. I was told this engine has a timing chain instead of a belt, is this true? Is the 2.5 an interference engine? I've also read on this site about "o" rings leaking oil, is this a common problem on the 2.5? Any insight that can be shared about this car/engine and maintenance would be appreciated. Thanks Kevin
coloradosubarules
If I am not mistaken you can ask Subaru for a maint log so you will know when to bring it in and for what. Your engine is a non-interferance engine. I am not sure about the 2.5's but the 2.2's are supposed to get a new timing belt every 60K mi. The chain is news to me. Maybe someone else can chime in and give you better advice.
