Can anyone answer any of these questions:

- will a (european) 165mm standard speaker fit in the front door (Infinity Kappa 65.5cs)?

- any suggestions where to place the tweeters? And how? With the least filing and sawing...

- will a 130mm coax speaker fit in the rear door without cutting the door? For example with a thicker adapter ring that I could cut out of MDF board? Or should I go with a 100mm (4") speaker?

- I saw in the new turbos there is a bass unit (wouldn't say a subwoofer, seems to be 6"x9" only) mounted in the cargo space. Is there an easy way to fit one into mine (Infinity or such)? Does it need an enclosure?

- Where to put the amp?

- I think I can figure out the wiring and stuff but any suggestions are welcome.

 

I am new to this forum, gonna get my first Sub in a week, but when I tried the car, the stereo didn't make a deep inpact on me, so to say.

Used to have a MINI, loved it, but now it is time to change...

I used to be an installer so I will let you pick my brain for a second.

 

I would reccomend going with the OEM size of the speakers, front and rear but just upgrading to a better speaker. You might want to consider a front speaker system that includes a tweeter, mid-bass woofer and crossover. A lot of the times the maker will give you a few options as to how to mount the tweeter. If you do not want to alter your car then you could just surface mount them. Here is one of my pattented tweeter tricks...put both of them behind you review mirror pointing at the glass. The sound bounces off the glass and it doesn't give you that funny "why are the highs so high when I turn my head like this" kinda stuff.

 

As for the Subwoofer:

 

I know the Impreza line has an available sub-woofer that is mounted under the passengers seat but I do not know what the do in ohter countrys. Usualy you can buy and amp and sub in a box for the price of that OEM sub. Once again..what you want and where you want to put it are up to you. I n the back of my 90 Legacy wagon I have (2) 12 woffers in a box that fits nicely between the wheelwells. The Amp is mounted on the back side of the smallest rear seat (60/40 design) by removing the carpet and padding then replacing the padding with a piece of plywoodm then re-attach the carpet and screm wht amp onto the back of the seat. I also ran the wires under the carpet and cut little holes for them to exit through near their respective connections. If you install and amp yourself please keep the following in mind:

 

  1. Run the audio out from your headunit down one side of the car and the power down the other to avoid noise in the system.
  2. Always use the reccomended guage for your power and speaker wires.
  3. Ground the amp very well.
  4. Us an in-line fuse under the hood! Not in the car. You want it as close to the battery as possible. Never excede the amp rating of the fuse that comes with your Amplifier. They make it that way for a reason.
  5. Make sure your speakers are the right polarity.
  6. Never splice your OEM harness. Get an after market one and do it to that.
  7. when looking to purchase an amp always go by the RMS ratting. Most times companies use peak wattage.
