phantom462 Posted November 15, 2004 Share Posted November 15, 2004 Ok, here's the skinny...I had some "skip" problems with my subie, that is when you make a sharp turn left or right there is some front tire skip kinda like you would experience on a large 4x4 with the hubs locked in. It's most noticable at lower speeds, such as in a parking lot or pulling out of your driveway. Well, I checked the fluid and it was nasty...not really knowing what the problem was I decided to go ahead and buy a tranny out of Japan. Well, I got it in and for the first day things went well then on the second day my check engine light came on again,(it came on previously as the skip problem got worse). Well this time I got a little more educated and found the trouble codes and how to retrieve them. You can find a ton of info at this excelent site... http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/subaru.html Anyhoo, I did the TCU check and it gave me code #24, which is the duty C solenoid....that is exactly what probably went bad on my other tranny according to those in the know..so what the heck? 93leg Posted November 15, 2004 Share Posted November 15, 2004 You may first want to check all fuses, and then try this; insert a standard fuse in the "AWD" socket on the passenger side of the motor compartment, near the strut mount. It is used to disable the AWD during towing. Drive your car to reproduce your problem. This will at least tell you that the solenoid has fully failed. In a properly functioning AWD system, your binding should disappear with the fuse in. This may help diagnose your problem. Legacy777 Posted November 15, 2004 Share Posted November 15, 2004 One comment. Putting the fuse in the fuse holder does NOT make it safe to tow an AWD car with the wheels on the ground. The fuse holder is there mainly for diagnostic purposes, as well as emissions and dyno testing. Do what 93leg suggested and see if your binding goes away with the fuse in.
