Guest Batman
I've got a 1982 Brat and the Hi-Lo 4 sp sticks in 4th. If you come to a complete stop in 4th, you have to put it into low range and get it moving before hitting the shifter extremely hard to get it to pop into neutral or third, I suspect the syncros. Any suggestions? I have an 86 Hi-Low but I don't believe it will interchange.
Guest JimN
Could it be gearbox windup? if you reverse a little before shifting it may help the problem.
Guest ShawnW
Why would you stop in 4th gear? Has somebody other than you been driving it lately and maybe stuck it in 4x4 when on dry pavement or done something harsh to it? Could your clutch cable have a kink in it or something? Guest subytech
the engagement teeth on 4th gear have worn into the shifting sleeve that the shift fork moves between 3rd & 4th. the sleeve is sticking on the diamond shaped teeth on 4th gear. the gear will be worn too but you could get by with just the sleeve. this is a lot of work, but can you find a used trans? when it gets stuck, shut the car off, push the car back a little and it will come right out. !not easy in traffic! or try not to leave it in 4th when you slow down?
