My trusty Chilton's describes a wedge bolt to adjust the rear brakes on my '86 GL Wagon. I think this only applies to the 2WD models (mine is 4WD) as I don't have this adjustment. There is an adjustable linkage beween the shoes, which can be released though a hole in the back, but I haven't been able to tighten it. Any ideas?

Mine is an 83 4WD and it has an adjustable wedge bolt. At least that what I think it's describing. A square bolt down the bottom inside of the brake assembly.

My '86 Brat and my '85 Wagon (2WD) both have the wedge bolt, but this Wagon (4WD) doesn't.

A 85-up Wagon,Sedan or 3-door that is 4x4 will not have the adjuster. They have self adjusters. Hope this helps you out. Dale Teague (Teague's Auto) Visit http://www.teaguesauto.com For all your SUBARU needs.

After 250,000 miles, the star wheel on the adjuster was nearly worn smooth. When I got another set of adjusters it worked fine. These cars just last too long.
