Legacy777
drop the tranny. It'll be easier IMO. It's pretty straight forward. You'll need to make sure you have a clutch alignment tool. I'd replace the throwout bearing, pilot bearing, and pressure plate if you hadn't already planned to.
Gnuman
I didn't know they made a Legacy in 89. . . Drop the tranny, it is a lot easier. I recomend getting a clutch kit from Exedy, as they make the OEM clutches for Subaru, and the price is reasonable.
Legacy777
it was probably manufactured in 89, but it's a 1990 model year.
sprintman
If you remove the flywheel to get it machined and that is std procedure it's mandatory to use new Grade #8 bolts. Do not reuse the old ones.
coloradosubarules
Anything after 07/1989 is considered 1990 model year. Somemakers are bumping it up to 05 of the previos year.
Legacy777
There was no 89 model year in the US....so any legacy made in 89 that was sold in the US was still a 1990 model year, regardless of the cutoff date.
