Recirc valve or not?

Ok guys, gathering the last pieces to get my MR2 Intercooler installed on the RX this weekend. Got it all mocked up last weekend to see what I would need. Minus the hood scoop and finding a local alum welder to do some mods to my extra intake plenum (cut off end and weld on tube) I'm basically ready. BUT my question is since I have decided to just keep it at around stock boost (under 9psi at all times) do I need to put in a recirc valve to keep it from freaking out or will my stock system take care of me?

Just adding the IC to help the engine last longer, not looking for super power gains or anything. Still learning all this.

i think looking at it from a dependability standpoint, id want to run a recirc valve. you could get one off of a turbo eclipse,. they hold good up to 20lbs. it willl make your turbo last longer.

the stock system has a dashpot, or whatever, thats supposed to keep your turbo from hitting a brickwall, when your throttle plate slams shut... but a recirc would work better.

and it would obviousle look cool to have more plumbing under your hood... right:lol:

I think a recirc at stock boost with an ic is a good idea, with a stock intake there's only 1 litre of air at 7-9psi to clear. No problem for the stock dashpot/throttle plate assembly to deal with, add a charge cooler and it's related hoses and you're going to have anywhere from 4 to 8 litres of air at 7-9 psi. If you don't mind a farting throttle body and a lean start to each shift for the first half second then do with out, but i personally think that from a turbo re-spooling / performance view an ic without a BOV or recirc valve is a mistake and increases strain on your turbo. I don't like how the BOV's can cause a minor stumble but maybe the slightly richer air/fuel ratio that occurs during venting helps your motor run a little cooler. Maybe.

So yeah Recircs=Happy motor

:drunk:

recirc. Good

I have run a few different ones. the bosh units from VWs/Saabs work well but can make noise if not plumbed properly. I hve a ford(mazda) unit that I never used also.

the wrx one I have now is vented to the atmosphere and I dont like the little stumble it causes. it also cracks open a bit at cruise some times. I still run cats so I dont like that at all. plan to plumb it tonight if I can fab a flange.

Ok was thinking along those same lines. From what I have been reading etc I was thinking the recirc valve was the way to go also, just needed to hear it from you guys who are actually running the IC's or have experience/knowledge with turbos. Will pick up a recirc valve for the install too and plumb it in somehow.

Thanks guys

the BOV that vent to the atmosphere are good with a stand alone fuel management system like the MS setup since the fumble that it has with the stock ECM is the ECM trying to figure out WTF is going on with the air that is being lost somehow. So a recirc valve is the best to use with a stock ECM setup but with the MS setup, you can run a true BOV.....plan on doin it myself, can ya tell?;)

fabricated the rest of the plumbing to get my recirc valve to dump into the intake last night. runs better. no stumble between shifts. seems to stay spooled better too.

Drkrazy- I have a couple different valves sitting around. if you need one and cannot find one local I would sell you one cheap. what type are you looking for?

the only problem with that intercooler is that although it fits verry nice. its not the most efficient design. but hey neither is the WRX unit I run. guess some intercooler is better than no intercooler. dam I wish I could have had a FMIC.
