daja Posted December 8, 2004 Share Posted December 8, 2004 I've lived with this for years and will like to know if anyone else has the same problem. I have a 2000 Forester with keyless remote. Most of the time when I press the open it works, but when I try to open the other doors by pressing the button again and holding, it doesn't. Just sounds like the driver door is unlocking (faint clicking). It's winter again and I got majorly upset when trying to get the doors open with my two small ones and not being able to until I went to drivers side and used the manual unlock. I've changed batteries many times and this happens on both my remotes. Question: Keyless Entry Sucks or do the remotes suck? Can I correct this problem by buying a newer remote (heard there are more rounded ones out)? My remote is the square one with rounded corners. coloradosubarules Posted December 8, 2004 Share Posted December 8, 2004 KInda sounds to me like you have a bad relay. Call your local dealer and ask them where to find said relay. They can be bought at your local parts store and are easy to install. This would be your cheapest fix. If it does not solve the problem then I would go the remote route. If you have questions regarding KES you can ask the folks at www.the12volt.com and they might be able to give you more info. You do have to register to post on their forum but it is fast and free. Subaru X Posted December 8, 2004 Share Posted December 8, 2004 I kinda have the same problem with mine. I can't get the other 3 doors to unlock unless I am really close to the vehicle. It just does the faint clicking noise on the drivers side door. As for a fix I really don't have one figured out yet. I've been contemplating putting in a whole different system and alarm. RallyKeith Posted December 8, 2004 Share Posted December 8, 2004 I try to open the other doors by pressing the button again and holding, it doesn't. 1st off, I don't think you are supposed to hold the button. 2nd, You have to press once to unlock the driver's door and press immediately again to unlock the remaining doors. Is there a chance that you just aren't pressing it soon enough? It could actually be a combination of the two things. If you hold the button too long the receiver may not process the command until it sees the button is released, and therefore the sequence isn't occouring fast enough. Sometimes I have to press twice to get the other doors to open? Usually when I wait too long... My .02 Glenn 82 SubaruHummer--no doors, no remotes. 01 Forester--Ebay factory keyless and remotes. Mark-O-Back Posted December 9, 2004 Share Posted December 9, 2004 I've got a 97 outback. One click opens the drivers door locks, or holding for 3 seconds opens all locks. Mine got flakey and I changed the battery. The old was 6 point something volts. Should have be 12 volts (yep that little thing is 12 volt) The new battery improved things but I got the good results when I cleaned the button contacts. The circuit board and the little conductive buttons with alcohol. Also there was a lint factor to be cleaned out. Now the thing works at 50 feet or more. Just so you know on mine there is no problem with removing the battery and cleaning the thing as far as losing ID with the car. Good luck to ya! People always laugh at me when I tell them this, but I've noticed that I can increase the distance between the remote and the car. I've been doing this for years In regards to the pressing sequence I've tried both. 1 to open and quickly to open remaining doors. This is where my trouble comes, it sometimes doesn't react to the second press. I may do this sequence several times in attempt to get doors open. I'm not that old or maybe I'm just too fast and the remote doesn't sense I've released it the first time. The strange thing is that it almost seems like it locks me out when this happens because I try to lock the doors to start over it doesn't lock. This is when I open the door with the key on the passenger side to flip the door switch. Difficult to do when I'm holding my 4year old in my arms in -40 celsius windchill (last years experience and don't want to repeat this winter). Are the newer remote boxes interchangeable? Hopefully they will have one that they can use to test this sort of thing. With all the abuse the transmitter sees I would expect it to give you problems before any of the brains.
