hnilsson
Hello all, I've got a 96 Legacy Outback with a leaking filler tube. The dealership is telling me that they won't fix just the tube. They are only willing to do the work if they replace both the tube and the gas tank, which is dented and has some rust and "may" also be leaking. This requires dropping the rear axle and costs $900. The car has 156k miles on it and I'm planning on getting rid of it next year, so I'd really rather just replace what's broken. Can anyone advise me? Should I look for another place that will repair just the filler tube? Or should I suck it up and get it done? Any advice is VERY appreciated! CardinaA
Hey, Same car, Same problem (fewer miles)! I know my mechanic said it's an easy job- said he could do it for less than 200; sister's '92 legacy also leaked and she had replaced at regular shop for 400. I think you should look elsewhere. Someone on this board suggested 1stsubaruparts (call 'em) for the part. Best of luck and let me know what you end up doing! I'm planning on getting my filler neck replaced next week (gulp) Cardy
hnilsson
Thanks, Cardy! Any chance your mechanic is in Massachusetts? I'll definitely let you know what I end up doing. Would love to hear how your repair goes, too... Hope
HAGENDAS
back in the early-mid 80's Honda had an issue with fuel filler necks rusting out. a recall was issues since so many people had the problem and it was deemed a saftey concern, maybe worh letting Subaru know so they can help.
