About a month ago my engine got rebuilt because of a colision with a deer which blew the timing belt hence the engine.

 

I took the opportunity and had the clutch replaced since it had always suffered from clutch shudder and they were gonna take it appart anyways...

 

Now since this repair, and many trips to the dealer, I get this burning rubber smell in the car once in a while. I had all the straps checked and the dealer was unable to reproduce the smell. He even replaced the AC compressor because its pulley was not dissagenging properly... Now I observed that the smell usually happens when I do alot of declutching such as in traffic, or parking the car. The old clutch never did that and I consider that I have good "clutch technic" and do not let it slip unecessarily.

 

The question is, did the dealer misadjust something? Could the clutch be faulty? I don't know if the clutch is Hydrolic on this car. Could it have something to do with the hydrolic pump if that is the case?

 

The car is a 2000 Legacy Wagon.

I have an '00 OBW, manual, essentially same car.

 

The burning smell is most likely coming from your viscous clutch fluid under stress. I had a similar smell, which I noted when driving under loads up hills. Dealer service said viscous fluid heats up and emits smell.

 

I have not experienced ill effects from this.
