resler
New member to this group . . . I just noticed the low beam headlight on my 2001 Outback is burnt out. It's on the driver side, in front of the battery. I haven't replaced these before and just checked the owner's manual for instructions. It doesn't appear too difficult but again I'm a novice. I'm being quoted around $15-25 to replace and I'm not certain whether the battery has to be removed. My question is how difficult is this to replace and what might be a replacement bulb cost. Thanks. mtsmiths
The bulb just unplugs and plugs in again. It'll cost between $9 and $15 if I recall.

mtsmiths
It did on my '87, but I don't recall removing it on the '00. Onny replaced the bulbs once, and it was a couple of years ago ... I hereby declare a senior moment.

I just did this a month or so ago on my 01 OBW. No removal of anything more than the retainer ring and the clip on the bulb. The bulbs SHOULD cost less than the $15 you were quoted. I paid about $4 at the NAPA. Advance Auto does not sell the bulb, so don't waste the trip. It is a 55 watt bulb. I call it a "Fog Light" bulb. I replaced 1 on my 95 GMC Sonoma, it was the same bulb as the OBW has. I would do both, the other side isn't far behind...

Thanks . . . this could not have been easier, and, to think I almost paid $20-25 to have it installed. Just a small thing, I realize, but what a great feeling of fulfillment to save the $$$ (also replaced one on my Jeep). Great board, I'll be back.
