Thermostat replacement 95 Legacy 2.2L

Recommended Posts

Ah Glen, the EJ 22 is a bit different than what you are used to I believe.

The T-stat is under a goose neck that is on the block on the end of the

lower

(not upper) radiator hose.

I'm afraid most of the system will need drained.

Catch it and filter it through a clean cloth when putting it back in.

Follow the burping proceedure of having the front higher than the rear, using the upper rad hose as a fill point, there is an excellent post by Setright on this method.

I getting luke warm heat not hot and the windows are fogging up something fierce. Any ideas of why the windows are fogging up? Thanks for the help.

What makes you think the thermostat is bad?

If you do need a new one just draining the radiator about a third will be enough.

Since you state that windows are fogging up and if you smell something like coolant then it sounds like there is a leak in the heater core I'm sorry to say. You will have to replace it probably. Not an easy job. You may want to have a pro look things over. Hopefully you don't have a head gasket leak also.

Thanks Cougar.

I do notice an occasional coolant smell. I will have it looked over by a pro. I take it by your comment that the heater core is not a fun thing to replace.
