Hello again,

As luck would have it, the wife's 01 Outback needs front brakes...again. We've taken it to the dealer 3 times for front brake related service. They turned the original rotors twice and replaced them once in 36,000 miles. She is a very good driver and is far from heavy on the brakes. This time around I'm going to the aftermarket for rotors and pads.

I took it to a local brake shop and they said that it needs pads, rotors and wheel/hub bearings. In the old days I repacked them. The car does squeal when tracking straight and turning right. It's quiet or close to while turning left. My question is should I replace them or can they be repacked?

Sorry for the rambling,

Steve

Hi Steve,

That sounds crazy to me. All that brake stuff , it cant be true? Surely?

As far as re-packin things goes, then I can only relay this information , to you, that my personal mechanic man did that thing for me. We could not find new parts for other things during the re-build, but the new grease sorted all the bearings, CV's, Steering geoms etc. Cost a fortune in time and grease.

Saved about £1200 on dealer charges though ? LOL!!!!! you think I am kiddin! No I am not. We get ripped off here in Scotland by Scooby dealers.

That is why we go Japanese and private mechanics. Hee Hee
