Official Weber thread for OffRoad.........

After wading through five tyre threads on one page I thought it would be nice to start a single thread to discuss our beloved Weber carbs:rolleyes: .

Okay, I'll start....... My Weber works great, no hesitation, no sputtering, no dieseling on shut down etc etc. I do have two problems. No top end and poor milage (14.75mpg this time). I have re-installed the carbon can, it has a new cat, I re-jetted it (140/140 mains, 60/55 idle, 165/160 air correction), The plugs are not getting fouled infact they look just like they should. I have a Carter low pressure high flow fuel pump, the float is set right. I'm running the standard tall K&N fillter. The only thing I havn't done is a full rebuild. So any ideas that I can try??? Oh yeah, it is on 28/8.5/14 TSR Swampers with a D/R 5spd Thanks, Tim

PS Please feel free to use this thread for all your Weber needs:)

best I ever got was 20. prob running about 17 right now... one thing I notice, is that the gas is a lot "cleaner" on the west coast. mtngrizz ran much better on the gas out in WA than it did back home.....

I think the fact that we don't have any emmissions testing here has something to do with the quality of the gas we are supplied with....

Okay, I just did a complete strip down and cleaning. One thing I think I did was set the float correctly. I tried this before but never on a bench with good light, no gass dripping all over etc etc. Tomarrow I'll put it back on if the weather hold and get back to you all.

PS It was so easy to do it scares me :brow:

Got it back on on Thursday, dialed-in on Friday and I'm now just driving it to see how it is going to work. So far just a mild performance increase over what it was. holds 65 okay now, up and down hills. Fuel consumption seems to have decreased, but I'll wait to fill up for a real accounting. Other then that runs well, but it did before I took it aparts. I'll give an update again later. Tim

thought I'd post this out here...

i recently rebuilt a water choke weber (from a bmw 2002) and it's now installed on a hydro lifter ea81 with 190k miles. engine is installed in '87 wagon (orig ea82) with 3" lift and 225/70R14 tires.

I also set the float at the "offroad" setting.

I am running 155 primaries. (most are running 140's)

I was talking to Zap on the phone yesterday, and I was doing 75 on my speedo, which translates to 85 mph...

I was in 5th gear, and did loose some speed on the hills, but still kept it about 65 on my speedo (74)...

not sure what I did right on this one, but it works for me :)

I used Camerons diagram and hooked up the returns and carbin can that way. I'm begining to wonder if my evelation here (1400') could have something to do with it???? Later, Tim

Tim, I used to have a Weber book (but gave it away with the car I sold that had a Weber in it). I remember that main jet changes were needed every 5,000 feet in elevation. You should go down one size, say from 140 to 135. At 10,000 feet you would then go down to 130. Otherwise they run too rich in the thinner air at elevation. So 1400 feet is not an issue.

Well, since folks are posting their setup.. here is whats in my DGEV for comparison:

140 pri 140 sec mains

170 pri 160 sec correctors

50/50 idle

Nets an average of 26mpg or so if I am light on the pedal. This is on the lifted brat with 30" tyres. My elevation is 8 feet MSL. No, its not a typo. 8 feet.

Cheers. :D

Do any of you have problems with dieseling after you shut it off? If so, my buddy Brian just got the fix for the 38/38 on his FJ. He says the Toyota guys say it's the shnit.

#WEB43914060B Weber Idle Solenoid, it costs 16.95. Basically, it's a fuel cut wired to your ignition. When you shut off the key, it kills your fuel flow.

He got it thru * http://www.jtoutfitters.com

*fixed, thanks Tim.
