Al_SemC
Some time in the future, it'll be 4EAT->5MT time for my '97 Legacy Outback (http://users.adelphia.net/~jetwash/attomtswap.html). Problem is there were hardly any MT Outbacks in '97. I have no problem using parts from an early RS if I could. I'm told the tranny will bolt right in, but I'm concerned about the driveaxles, the propeller shaft and the differential. Could I use the diff out of an RS without serious modification (no welding)? I really hope so; MT Outbacks are hard to find and rear LSD Outbacks are nigh nonexistant. Also, can I use my existing driveaxles? I'm concerned that the spline count won't match and I'll have to make some frankenaxle out of an RS axle and my Legacy AT axle. I'm fairly certain that the tranny mounts are interchangable. I also know that my existing AT propeller shaft won't work. Can I use an Impreza shaft, or is it too short? If I need a Legacy shaft, will the splinecount match? So many questions, so little time! Caboobaroo
you might also want to check out www.NASIOC.com for help as well since a lot more people there work with newer model Subarus. Sorry I can't really answer any of your questions, might be one of those figure it out while you go projects. Good luck!
Al_SemC
Good idea. I'll check my other haunt as well. I'm a fairly active NASIOC member.
Templar
Its all the same. Just make sure to use the rear diff that comes with the tranny.

Al_SemC
Well, okay. In the event that I don't get a tranny and diff combination, I do know the ins and outs of diff identification. The tricks and such, you know.
