progress on my ea81 install *updated 9/1 pics

Recommended Posts

so i have been collecting most of the things I need for my ea81 + d/r conversion for my '80 GL1600 wagon... so far I have gotten the tranny, the clutch stuff, and the longblock in the car. now its time for the intake and weber, and keeping all the emissions stuff out!

one problem I have run into (besides bow-wow closing a minute before I pulled up to buy my weber, and they wont be open till tuesday!) is the metal hose things that come off teh exaust, and I cant unbolt them with the tools I have- the bolts are too rusty (i will probably strip them, or round them off) so I cant remove them that way... I was thinking about cutting the pipe, and smushing it flat, or stuffing a piece of scrap steel into it, and welding it shut!

anyways, I am going to see if I can post a pic here-

(a pic test)

almost done.... all I need to do now is install the weber, the distributor, and do all the fluids and tune it!

here is another pic of the progress- look! its shiny!! (he he.. i also got bored with some spreaypaint)

I plugged up the EGR valve assembly with a piece of sheet aluminum, (cut it to fit like a gasket, but it has no holes...) so there is no EGR- is that a bad thing?? I would think not seince I am going to be using the weber, and NO emissions stuff... (note the little blue caps over the vacume outlets...)

:D

is the ea71's Y pipe narrower than the ea81's ?? I was having trouble with it lining up properly! hopefully when it heats up it will line up better, cause the pipe is being spread apart by the engine!
