Hello,

I need new tires on my 92 legacy. The size is 185/70 R14. Costco says that Subaru recommends tires with an H speed rating. They only sell T and wont install them. T seems fast enough or is there more to the speed rating than just speed?

I am currently running S with no problem. I certainly don't drive fast any more....

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

Mick.

is there another tire place in your area? if so did you try them?

when it comes to tires on my legacy, the place i go to will install what ever i ask them to.as long as it's not a set of mismatched.so they can't be held reliable for probs down the road.

Trying to find an H speed rating tire for your size can be hard. If you go to an alternate size such as 195/65R14 which I used to run on my wife's 93 legacy with no problems, you'll have a lot more selection available on the H speed rating criteria.

Or...do what subie94 says. Find another shop that'll put on S or T speed rated tires in the 185/70R14 size that you currently have.

Ditto here. Costco insisted on Bridgestone Potenza RE950s; H-rated, 40k warranted and $90 each installed. Would not install Turanzas for $20 less. I promptly walked out and went to my local garage for a set of Yoko. Avid Tourings (S and 80k) for $72.

Costco will give you good bargains for many things. Tires are not among them.

Do what I did, buy a set of stock WRX wheels with tires on them and upgrade to 16s. Looks great :brow: There is only about a 2-3% difference in size, so your speedo won't be too whack. I got my set with decent tires on them for $200, and you can sometimes get them cheaper depending who is selling them.

If you are set on getting OEM size with your wheels, bridgestone is actually running a mail in rebate offer. For the 950s, you get $75 back on the set. Here's the link to bridgestone site/store locator. This deal is also available at tirerack.com but they only have the blizzaks in the OEM size.

Credit for the rebate offer goes to cyrus4u on slickdeals.net
