I'm back...with another question

Recommended Posts

Hi gang.....

You may or may not remember me as the gal who had her '96 Subaru Legacy towed a few months back (rear wheels on the ground...no flatbed). Since then, the car needed serviced again...another valve problem. The car seems to have lots more power and, all in all, is running well.

BUT, when slowing down and braking, I am noticing a "surge" ...as though the vehicle wants to keep moving. I sometimes have to put both feet on the brakes at a complete stop to keep the car stopped. I may not have to do this, but it makes me feel better....the car simply feels like it wants to keep moving!

I had new front brakes, rotors and calipers installed about 4 months ago..they squeal and have been ever since. New rear brakes and rotors just installed last month.

I mentioned this power surge when stopping to a friend and they thought it could be the transmission? Could it be the front brakes?

I'd appreciate any feedback. You were all so great addressing my concerns a while back.....

Thanks much,

Linda

Next time you're feeling the surge, pop the shift lever into neutral and see if it goes away. If it does, it could be transmission related. If it doesn't go away, then I'm not sure what it is....might just be not as good brakes.

Possible the idle speed is set too high. BTW what was the "valve problem" that was recently fixed?

Does the brake pedal feel soft or spongy? They may not have done a good job of bleeding the air out after your recent brake system work. That's kind of what it sounds like to me.

Yeah...It does feel kinda spongy. Not a solid feeling when I apply the brakes.

I'm off to the brake people after work....Thanks!

Any news ?? I agree with Air in the lines thought and theory. These "quick" fix shops do everything fast and sometimes not correctly (Gotta make $$$). Especially when 2 technicians are involved (needed to properly bleed the brakes)
