I have a '98 Legacy Limited GT with an automatic transmission. I noticed a referrence to newer Limited GT's coming with an LSD in the rear but need to now if this is true with my '98 version. How can I tell if there is an LSD in the rear diff? I am about to change the fluid in the diffs to synthetic using Mobil 75W90 but if I understand it correctly I need a special additive to the oil if the rear has an LSD. Is this correct? Also, can anyone tell me what gear ratio came in these cars? It cruises at 70 mph at 3,000 rpm.
Thanks,
Ruppster

None of the second generation Legacys (95-99) came with a rear LSD (North America anyway).
Some of the first generation Legacys have them (turbo) and some of the current generation Legacys have rear LSD. It's become more common again thru Subaru's line up.

Straight from the Subaru parts book's mouth... you don't have a rear LSD.

I looked beforehand and there is no label on the rear of the diff.
North Ursalia and Commuter: that's what I was figuring. Thanks.
