Ultimate Subaru Message Board

I have a 04 LLBean outback Wagon and am installing a hitch. The wiring harness I bought is or a 96 to current outback wagon (Drawtite). The instructions reference a wiring plug on the car that I can't find. I have looked everywhere, both taillight access panels, the jack access panel, under the spare, under the car etc.

Anyone know where else I should look? Thanks.

Welcome to the board,

I had this same basic question on my Forester, I did a search and found it was located in the spare tire well under the rear deck. It was a female connector taped to the regular harness. Look for an unused plug hiding in the back of the spare tire well, (not in the bottom). It will probably be located in a slightly different place but it's got to be close...

Have you tried a search?

Good luck,

Glenn

FOUND IT! Turns out by searching this board as recommended by a member, I found that while the instuctions say it is on the drivers side, it is actually on the passanger side, and while the instructions and the dealer say it is accessed via the tail ligh access panel, you really have to pull the carpet and padding on the passanger side of the rear cargo area, some insulation under the side panel and then fish around and pull out the harness that is really located in the bottom of the passanger side rear wheel well (not the spare tire well) or some would call it the rear quarter panel.

Dealer got it 1/2 right (correct side, wrong access method) the drawtite intructions got it all wrong (wrong side, wrong access panel).

Thanks for the help.
