3AT FWD emergency! question???

Recommended Posts

ok, so i waisted away a whole day swapping out a 3at Fwd, and the one that was removed was definately bad.. and the one we put in which supposedly was good, turned out to not to work either!!! :banghead:

but, I am wondering, could bad fluid, or not enough, or too much fluid cause the car not to drive or make weird sounds when in gear (makes horrible rubbing noise, and doesnt move much when in gear)

so we are going to swap trannys AGAIN!!! unless someone knows what I did wrong (if your wondering, we have old, crusty lookin atf in there, and if thats the problem, then a drain and replace would be easy!

hoping for the best-

call me tomorrow if you have a good idea- thanks

The castel nut from the driveshaft by those Subaru's always should be retorqued few weeks after a removal. Because of the cotter pin one should think she can't kome lose and in fact she dozen't, but the shaft will move while driving, searching his correct position. Also pay attention to the outer washer, the one that's just behind the nut. Take a close look and you'll see it is a little 'cup' formed, the hollow side must be toward the hub.

It's because of a loose nut the splines get worned out.

A loose nut gives a whining noise by very low speed or while braking.

Luck!!

Urban.
