O2 Sensor and Catalytic converter

Recommended Posts

I have heard before that if one of your O2 Sensors goes out and you don't replace it, you run the risk of ruining your catalytic converter. Can anyone validate or disprove this statement? Just curious. Thanks.

I suppose it's possible if the front O2 sensor was out, and the car was running very rich for a long time, that you might cause premature wear of the catalyst.

Having the rear one go out, and not replacing it, isn't as big a deal.
