idosubaru Posted June 4, 2005 Share Posted June 4, 2005 always had good luck with sears die hard as well. have had advanced auto parts batteries last only 2 years, not good enough for me. the optima red tops are awesome from what i hear, but i've never owned one. putting one in my XT6 once i drop the motor in...next week hopefully. I'm replacing this one because it dies after I charge 4 or 5 1700mAh batteries that go in my radio controlled helicopters. I take this to mean that the useful capacity is 5*1700 = 8.5Ah. This seems weak to me. Other than that it always cranks the engine just fine. Haven't had any cold weather experience with it yet though. outback_97 Posted June 4, 2005 Share Posted June 4, 2005 I considered mine dead when I went out one morning and couldn't start my car I was lucky to get 8 years out of it. I went with the Sears brand because I'd heard they were decent, the price was reasonable, and they were open on Sunday morning and a mile away. Living where you do, I'd probably get a new one in the near future (like before November or so)... they're more fun to change when it's 65 degrees than when it's -20. idosubaru Posted June 4, 2005 Share Posted June 4, 2005 make sure your battery terminals/cables are good as well. if they don't tighten well, replace them. that's one of the best 3 dollar preventative maintenance items around. that would keep me from working on many friends cars! unverviking Posted June 5, 2005 Share Posted June 5, 2005 I believe that the Die Hard's are made by Exide. I know that the last battery I bought was a NAPA, top of the line, also made by Exide. Great Battery. So if the Die Hard is made by Exide, it should be the same battery. AC Delco are good batteries as well. My mom has a 96 Olds Ciera with the original AC Delco battery, Still starting like a champ. I didn't see anyone mention Interstate. Had 1 of those too, another good one in my book. When I leave work, walk out to the parking lot, try to start it up and the battery explodes. I forget what kinda POS battery was in it.. but it was whatever the dealership put in a used 98 Legacy. *Don't Like* Emich Subaru in Tucson. I set my security system off in the process, but other than that it went smooth as silk. They wanted $150+ to do this at the dealership. I only paid $80 for the battery I saved $70 by loosening 4 bolts with my 10mm socket. That's some hourly rate, if only I could do that 40 hrs a week...
