I have a '95 Legacy Wagon, 2.2L, AWD, 5-spd. I'm going to hit 240,000 miles in a few weeks so I'm it looks like I'll have to have the 60,000 mile service performed for the fourth time. It's kind of annoying having to get a new timing belt every 2 1/2 years. (grin) The car seems to run great. I never have to put in more than a quart of oil between changes (every 3000 miles), though cruising at 80 does seem to use up more oil than when I drive slower. There is some minor engine ticking, and it makes a high-pitched whirring/chirping/squealing sound when I really gun it which sounds like a belt to me.

Anyway, I plan to keep driving it for a few more years, so I don't mind spending dropping some money into the service. What sorts of things (i.e. seals, hoses, belts, plugs) should I have the mechanic do in addition to the timing belt?

Thanks

I have some unconventional advice. Don't do scheduled mantainence just because the calendar or odometer says it's time. Inspect at least the alternator and A/C belts. Look for cracks, missing sections of tooth, etc. Here's a Link to a potentially helpful site. If they're still good, there's no need to throw them out.

That is, unless you don't mind spending a few extra Jacksons to be sure your belt won't break before you next have it serviced.

You could do the water pump and front oil seals every 120,000 miles. But 60000 highway miles puts far less wear on the car than 60000 stop-and-go miles, so your car's parts will probably last more miles than normal.

DO the timing belt!! and also do the cam and crank seals. i would also recomend to have all the idler pullys replaced as they may be fine now but in 6000miles they may destroy themselves. At work we have had a few idlers let go just 12500KM after the Timing belt done even when the pullyes showed no signs of severe wear ie: Rough, noisy or stiff. so just my 2 cents. also after that many miles dont be suprised to find split cv boots or rack boots or broken engine or gearbox mounts plus numerouse other bushes

dont worry about the timing belt too much.. they can and have one some cars, lasted over 100k each belt.. and, you have the last of the non-interference EJ22s... so if it breaks, no problem (except for a car that wont start till the new belt is reinstalled)

while your in the belt area, do the oil pump reseal (front crank, O ring, 3-bond) do the cam seals and O rings both sides, water pump+hoses+Tstat, and yes.. the idler pullys and tentioner would be good too)

it will keep going, if you keep up the good maintenence- sounds like you have a good canadate for the 400k+ club! (as soon as you get there :brow: )
