I have a bad 2.5 dohc motor in my 97 legacy outback. has anyone tried to swap in a 2.5 sohc. Maybe just the short block.

i think that you can swap the SOHC short block onto the DOHC heads and get away with it, but you cant swap SOHC motor into car that was originally DOHC, the ecu's have different settings for the extra 2 cams. that is about as much as i know. wait a tick......i dont think you can swap the DOHC heads onto a SOHC short block, i cant remember if the blocks are different or not. i think the DOHC short blocks are bigger for the DOHC heads to bolt to. are you sure you have DOHC, i didnt think that the DOHC EJ25's came into the legacy cars until 2001.......i could be wrong though.

as far as i am aware, the ecu wont be any different for the dohc/ sohc motors, but i could be wrong.... i have heard of dohc heads on an ej22t before, so i dont know...... why are you want to change the block anyway?

you can swap in a 1995 2.2.

It will plug into your 2.5's harness.

contact CCR for more info. (colorado custom rebuilders)
