Thats a high price for pads. I usually pay 25.00 for name brand.

For some wear parts, it pays to go retail. For others, like a waterpump, i would go to subaru. I figure the originalk waterpump lasted 130K, why cheap out and get another one that wont last that long.

Depends upon the part. how hard it is toreplace, and how long it lasted as to weather i go to subaru or retail.

Lifetime pads make worry...wouldn't they eat up rotors really quick?...

A lot of "Lifetime" stuff is just playing the odds. What are the chances that the average person will still own their car in another 50-60k miles? And even if they did, could they find the warranty paper work. Not usually.

 

SubieGal, am I blind too? Do you have any "Old Gen" (EA82 and older) parts?

life time warranty means that if it fails due to manufacturer defects, they will rep[lace it as long as you own the car, its not a free set of pads due to normal wear and tear.

 

 

suby gal, im looking at the 94 legacy sport rear brake calipers, do they come with mounting brackets? i have a set of vented rear rotors and pads for the legacy sport and am looking to mount em on my impreza, but getting ahold of the calipers is a bit tricky sofar. i might be able to order em from the advance auto parts store i work at. but id rather get em from subaru than a remanufacturing company.

I've been running NAPA's Ceramix pads on my 01 OBW for the last 40k miles (Front). They are about 65% done, will replace with them again in the fall. The OEM pads wore out after 23k. Same drivers driving the car...

The Rears were replaced at about 35k (OEM worn out), they too have over 40k on them and they are the NAPA OE (not Ceramix) pads.

 

I'd say pay the extra for the NAPA's, you'll get better life out of them for the $$$. I didn't resurface the rotors on either set, but plan on doing so this time. I'm noticing a very slight shake on hard braking. Anyone had bad luck with resufacing ?? Other than the lathe having a bad blade, etc...

 

Oh yeah, I haven't had to clean the Ceramix pads at all... I had a set of the NAPA OE pads for 17k on the front and had to clean them, but my buddy that worked at NAPA had me try these CERAMIX when they first came out. They have the shims, etc with them. Not a squeal or squeek from them yet. Can't say that about the "Lifetime" pads I bought for @ Auto Zone for my old 93 Legacy Wagon (miss her)

You might want to give a suggestion to your website person that they should make the OEM parts catalog easier to find. The first few times I went to your site, I couldn't find it. Then, by chance I clicked on Tune up Parts, and that was the link to the OEM Parts catalog.

 

I think they could do a better job at placing the button or explaining that it is for the OEM parts, or put a link on the top of the site, I know a lot of people have had trouble finding it.

 

 

I think it's because it says "Tune up Parts." People probably think it is spark plugs, filters, etc. You don't think of a water pump or alternator or suspension part as a "tune-up." :)

 

You would probably get a lot more online business. Now that I know where to find it, I'll be sure to order some stuff in the future, the only bad part for me is that you are on the directly opposite end of the country. Shipping takes a long time...

Speaking of website critique, after you restored my sight and pointed me to the site :) , I found that although I was asked for specific Year/Make/Model info, the results pretty much disregarded the model info (87 wagon returned Justy parts also).

 

(I was a programmer for 20+ years, so I understand the complexities of such things. :) )

Anyone had bad luck with resufacing ??

 

Yes, now I don't resurface rotors anymore. For the cost of a pair of rotors, I’d rather not deal with the potential for warping a thinner rotor.

 

My just retired 1988 Saab 9000 had original rotors front and rear, never turned, and well within mfg's specs for wear. My 2001 Legacy GT wagon warped rotors within 12k, the dealer turned them, and they warped again. The replacements are now warped, at about 50k, so I’m going to buy a set of vented Brembos. I"m not happy with Subie OEM rotors, at least for my GT. For what it’s worth, I’m also going to try a set of Porterfield 4R-S performance composite pads on the next go around too.

 

If you reuse a rotor, that has any circumferential grooving, be sure that you take it easy for the first few hundred miles as the new pad won’t have 100% contact until it wears into the groove pattern.
