Guest calebz
Mech guage has a capillary tube that runs from the sending unit to the guage.. only wires are for the little light bulb.. you have to remove the old sending unit an screw in the new one.. its all one piece. Guest oobnuker
The problem that I am up against is finding an adapter bushing to get the probe to install properly in the engine. I think on the cheapo gauge I got at Advance Auto, the thread is 3/8" NPT, and the Subaru uses some sort of metric. I tried a local hardware store and Home Depot and they had nothing that I could use. Next I guess is a big Plumbing supply house.
Guest Tom63050
Go to autometer.com. Navigate to the catalog, then Accessories. There you will probably find what you need under Metric Adaptors. Looks like part #2370 or #2263 is the one you need. Auto Meter doesn't sell online. There should be a listing on their website of a parts place near you that sells their stuff, so you can order it.
