shangac
HI all, A new member here so I'm posting in all different forums. HA Anyway my wife and I just bought a 2003 LEgeacy LE with the crappy automatic. We really like the car but is a bit slow. I am trying to get a few more ponies out of her and someone suggested a K&N filter. IS there a real gain here ir is it all in the head of the K&N purchaser? Also, does anyone know of a co. that will reprogram the computer? And does it help? I want more power but don't want to loose mpg. Pillowsplat
From what I have read it is a waste of money. Maybe one additional HP. Chipping a car works only on a turbo car as you are esentially just turning up the boost. For a naturally aspirated car you need to supercharge, and increase exahuast flow. Hardly worth the cost on a Station wagon
North Ursalia
That's not entirely correct- chipping cars doesn't mean just turning up boost, and naturally aspirated cars definitely can reap benefits from chipping. You can also adjust fuel and timing curves in addition to upping boost . That being said, there is no 'chip' for your Legacy I'm afraid . shangac
Hi all, Thanks for the response. First of all...it is not a wagon. As God as my witness I am not a parent nor will I look like one driving around town. HAHA Anyway I only ask about the reprograming the computer because I read somewhere that they can change, as someone mentioned, the timing, fuel flow, air flow meters and shift points. It seems I am alone, however, in my quest to hop up my Legacy. Oh well, I guess I'll wait until the wife is done with it, retire it to my possesion and then have fun with turbo chargers. I knew I should have waited for the new Legacy Turbo... HAHAH Thanks everyone, Stuart
1ABAJA
I have a Legacy 03 L SE...and she is slow off the start. Although, she is a nice running ride with good looks...make sure you break in your ride before utilizing your cars full potential. I guess my trip from Fort Wayne to Auburn at 110 cruising speed with my AC on ruined the reciever/dryer for my AC. I don't have any idea how? Just be careful before your break-in mileage. Did you let her talk you into an auto? I did... Somebody said something about an air filter system with a potential 15-20 hp gain...also a performance exhaust header would potentialy gain hp by 15-20.??? I called a while back....these numbers were guesses. Josh
