1988 hatch bumper install Q

i found a bumper for my hatch thru EJ, only thing is is that is the metal & chrome version as opposed to the standard black plastic that was originally on the car...

 

any problems with this? do they mount the same?

I think it depends on which chrome bumper your talking about. There's two. One seems to be a low profile bumper that allowed the mounting of the Push Bars and Brush Guards - that one I don't know about, but I suspect it will work since it was designed for the 4WD's. The other chrome bumper is the 5 mph shock bumper found on the 2WD's. Mine had this style, and there's pretty much no way you could mount it wihthout a heck of a lot of modification and welding. There's a whole chassis mount peice that is welded to the car, and is needed for the shocks to mount to. This bumper is also much to big to allow the mounting of the Push Bars and what not, so I had to take it off my car. I used the original shocks, and built my own Mad Max bumper with 3/8" steel plate. BTW - I now have an extra chrome bumper if anyone wants one....
