Trouble Quick starting after long stops heat

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Throwing this out there to see what you all think. Here are the symtoms.

1. At the last rallyX there were stops on the course...i would slide to a stop pause for a second and then go....problem is the car had like 20% power until i pushed in the clutch revved it and dropped it again....did this everytime pretty much.

2. It does the above mentioned when the engine gets very hot

Now what i was thinking was gas sloshing around therefore the fuel delivery is a little delayed, or perhaps a fuel filter? someone suggested vapor lock which i am not too familiar with.....any tips on the problem and solution would be great as it sucks my times down...thanks

Vapor Lock:

a stoppage in a pipeline caused by gas bubbles (especially a stoppage that develops in hot weather in an internal-combustion engine when fuel in the gas line boils and forms bubbles that block the flow of gasoline to the carburetor or fuel injectors).

Vapor lock is very rare on fuel injected engines. Fuel tends to run a closed loop, where after it runs around the injectors, it goes back to the tank. This is done to keep it cool.

I would look at other things first. get a fuel pressure gauge and try to reproduce the condition. It could be a clogged filter, lazy fuel pump, bad fuel pressure regulator.

Also are sure its fuel related and not spark related?

What year/make/model and how many miles?

Its high time i did a fuel filter anyhow....ill check the pump and regulator too

Well ive not had problem with spark in any other situation and plug wires are pretty new.....

There is a few more things to making spark other then the wires. The plugs, coil, cap, rotor, and the electronic module.

A weak spark when may work fine when the car is just puttering around. Heat increases resistance, which means electricity has to work harder to flow.

Just a thought.

On a hot engine fuel in fuel rails can boil if it isn't circulating fast enough or at enough pressure. The pressure keeps it from boiling like the coolant under pressure. Some injection systems don't circulate the fuel around the injectors. You could be losing pressure momentarily if a pump is weak or filter is clogged.
