Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I would appreciate your expert advice regarding used Subarus. Which would you suggest: 2001 Outback 2.5L wagon (certified vehicle) with 68000 miles, 2002 Legacy GT sedan (I believe there were about 4 recalls that year) with just under 35000 miles, or 2003 Forester XS with 78000 miles, all within the same price range. Help! My mom has a 2001 Forester - yep, we love it.

The Forester fits the bill for me for its size and carrying capacity. I assume they all have the same transmission? That could make a difference to me as I don't relly trust the automatics as much.

Only the 2003 might have the latest head gaskets which would be a plus. On the other hand the phase 2 leak is not as big a problem and with goop in the early cars you get a 100,000 mile head gasket warranty. For me it would be the Forester, but it's your money.

Hey Cookie, thanks for your reply. Yes, all 3 of the Subies have the same engine, although I have to recheck the GT. The 2003 Forester, I found out, has $2000 in body damage. Haven't heard back from the dealership yet on just exactly happened to the car. I think I may have to pass on that one. Geez. What's the scoup on the Legacy GT? I don't know much about this sedan. No it's not a wagon, for sure, but the one I have in mind is a 2002 and has 34000 miles on it. Asking price is $12900. What'd ya think?
