Psy890 Posted August 10, 2005 Share Posted August 10, 2005 Hi, I recently bought a 1996 Subaru Legacy with the 2.2L engine and automatic transmission. Under full throttle the transmission shifts at 6000 rpm. Is this typical of Subaru automatics or is it possible it has been modified? SuBrat84 Posted August 10, 2005 Share Posted August 10, 2005 Sounds about right... depending on how my legacy feels a lot of the time it will shift about 5500 rpms.. but sometimes I see it go up to about 6300 without me shifting it myself.. Tbird Man Posted August 10, 2005 Share Posted August 10, 2005 The power light is a power mode that comes on when you quickly depress the throttle. it changes the shift points to get more power at cost of fuel economy. Legacy777 Posted August 11, 2005 Share Posted August 11, 2005 The programming in the 1st & 2nd gen legacys' TCU seems to automatically shift the transmission at redline. I know for a fact, the 1st gen legacies will shift at redline, even if the gear selector is in the "1" or "2" position. The newer cars don't do this, the rev-limiter kicks in. nipper Posted August 11, 2005 Share Posted August 11, 2005 The valve bodies will force a upshift out of self preservation (that goes for all automatics). So far all the reveiws ive seen of the manual-matics will force an upshift a hair above redline. i know fuel injectors do stop operating at some point.
