Of course #1 is torque converter, #2 is front differential, #3? #4? #5 is the tail shaft housing. Guess I need to know whats in sections 3 and 4 and where does the torque binding occur? In 3 or 4? That would be section #5, by your designation. (In earlier transmissions/FSMs, Subaru refers to the sections by letter ID; and they don't count the TC.) NorthWet Posted August 14, 2005 Share Posted August 14, 2005 Oh, and lacking an FSM or decent manual for the 4EAT, my educated ( ) guess is that your #3 contains the planetary gear set, band and maybe a clutch pack (doubt it), and the #4 would be the clutch packs. Duty solinoid C is also located in section 5 as you have refered to it. In the cited picture, I would consider the piece on the left side of the picture to be the tailshaft housing. Regardless of nomenclature the leftmost tranny section in the picture has the transfer clutchpack visible in its upper half, and the Duty Solenoid C in the lower right (as viewed in the picture). I don't think the duty C solenoid is in the tailshaft housing...am I right? Um nope. Here. I took that pic and highlighted it. It's all in the back section.
