Newbie in WA lookin' for help :)

Recommended Posts

So, my story...

Short Version: I was given a (slightly customized) '84 GL Wagon, and its in need of a new engine, but I'm no mechanic. At all. I'm lookin' for an EA82 to buy, and someone to give me a hand (hah, who am I kidding... I'm lookin' to give someone else a hand) putting the new engine in.

Long Version (with pictures):

I'd like to save this things from the junkyard, if I can. :) I'm in Redmond, WA... who else is around here?

EA82 is wider than EA81 and won't fit between the frame rails unless that's what you mean by "slightly customized." Currently there are two EA81 engines at the Lynnwood PAP that might be worth pulling for you.

Oh yeah? Like I said, "Newbie". EA82 was recommended in that other thread, but I'd be lucky to tell the difference between an EA82 and a big block v8. Whats the HP difference between the 81 and 82? How much work would be needed to make an 82 fit?

Thanks for the quick reply. :)

I'm sure you were joking, but if you can't tell the difference between the EA82 and a big block V8, you probably shouldn't be thinking of installing anything other then what was meant to be there.

Timing would be everything!

Im headed to Bellingham on or around the 4th of Sept.

I think you said you lived in Seattle?

I would be more than interested in beer money and tent space in the yard if little blue dogs are welcome too!

I couldnt stay for too long since I will be trying to track down a place to stay up there.

In other words you got to have the engine you want to put in there first.

Ill try to stay on top of this post but without the internet at home its hard. private message me and i can give you my cell phone #.............

peace

RX: Yes, that was a joke. I'm sure I can tell the difference between the two. ;) I can do small stuff like replace brakes, fix busted lines, replace oil pumps... necessities. But I've never done anything big like replace engines or anything like that.

Dusty: I just shot ya off a message. :) Thanks

if you ever want to sell the rims that are on it, let me know:brow:

changing motors is really overrated, its really a piece of cake (or pie), for your first motor, just take the time to do it right.lifting it is the hardest part, i would recomend a hoist or a helping hand if you are a small guy.when removing the replacement motor at a junk yard, just cut everything, and don`t take anything off the motor, it makes it alot easier to install.i can answer most questions you may have, as i have done many motors in the past few years.good luck with your desicsion,

-Jon
