The original Potenza tires on my 2001 Legacy Wagon GT have little life left. I want to buy some winter rims and mount some winter tires and then next summer put some nice summer performance radials on the Suburu rims.

Question... Could someone suggest a good winter tire for the SUB ( Ice or Snow ?) and a good summer tire for next year ?

Thanks guys..

My present favourite for winter is Bridgestone Blizzak LM18. Very impressed with this as it's not only capable in snow, but performs far better in wet conditions than any winter tyre I can remember.

Danish weather conditions necessitate a good wet weather tyre, since snow is only sporadic.

Summer is also Bridgestone, RE720, which again perform very nicely in wet weather.

Thanks... I love the idea of going all season for cost purposes but was not sure if I was going to receive adequate snow/ice traction out of an all season....

The V4s are suppose to be good in the snow/ice? good to know. I wonder how much difference there would be between the V4 all season and say a Blizzak winter tire...

How about a tremendous High Performance All Season Tire.

Check out the Yokohama Avid V4s. V rated up to 148Mph and great snow traction to boot.

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought Blizzaks were Michelins... no ?

If you click on the link it will take you to a page on the TireRack website with reviews buy users of the tire. See if they sell the Blizzack and you can compare. That is how I decide on tires. I did it with my Pathfinder and love the tires I bought for that as well.

Thanks Milz... I will check it out. I have to admit that I am concerned with allseasons not coming thru in the crunch but I will have a look.

I have four Nokian Hakkapelitta 1's on my 01 Legacy GT and have never felt more comfotable in the snow. Unlike a dual rubber compound like the Blizzak, the hydroscopic rubber in the Hakka is full tread depth and it won't wear through this better material before the deep tread is gone.

Tires - you will hear more opinions than you would like to. Listen, absorb, do your own research and take the plunge. It's hard to go terribly wrong, if you use your head.
