Have electric locks on my 94 Legacy. Lately it has been hit-or-miss with the passenger doors locking or unlocking when I use the driver side lock to activate them.

Some pass locks will open, some will not, and some will, but very slowly.

Any ideas? thanks - mt

I'm in the same boat with you. Sometimes the door (especially the driver door)will lock itself and if I don't have the key with me, I'm locked out. Sometimes when an open is attempted to open the front passenger door, the handle will trigger the lever to lock itself and unless there is a person inside to hold the lever mechanism, you can't open the door at all. I never bother to do anything about it knowing it's getting old.

Sounds like the linkages in all the doors need lubrication, and possibly some adjustment (especially the driver's door).

Remember that the driver's door lock works a switch located where the actuator is found on the other doors. If the linkage is set too short or if the switch is loose, the switch won't operate reliably. If the linkage is too long, the switch might operate accidentally when you close the door, especially if you slam it.

The actuators in the other doors are very low-power electric motors. If the linkages are stiff due to lack of lubrication, the motors won't be able to operate the locks.

I know this thread is old but it was very useful in solving my 1992 legacy door lock problem. My locks would work hit and miss---seemed better in the cold weather.

I will only add that my 92 door lock assembly in the driver's side door looks a little different than the 95's and up. The part you want to take apart and clean is the black rectangular piece where the larger of the 2 electrical connectors attaches -- it has a black accordion-like boot with a plunger arm. Once you remove this switch from the assembly, remove its cover which is held in place with 4-5 small screws. Once open, you will see 4 copper sliding contacts that activate when the plunger moves in and out. Mine were very dirty and black. I cleaned everything with rubbing alcohol & an ink-pen eraser. I also bent the the contact arms down a little so there would be a better connection/ more tension. Use di-electric grease as lube and re-assemble. Solved my problem--- I'm so happy they work again!
