Rally X at Portland International Raceway Sunday morning

Recommended Posts

Yup, I think it's the last one of the season, I missed the first one because I didn't even see it on the schedule but oh well.

I hope the track design is better than the last ones that seemed to be the same hair pin turn all the way around the track, cheezy at best. I want at least one good, wide turn. I'm thinking the guys that own the Justys must be designing the tracks. No room to slide around corners unless you are in a Justy or Festiva!

might be worth the $30 to race, then again it might not be (again).

***if any of you track designer guys are reading this, please put an image of the track layout into the RallyX website prior to the race for everyone to see and make suggestions.

At least we got 4 laps. lol

I'm with you as to wanting a little wider track. Who can say why this last one was so skinny, possibly to enter the PIR circuit as gently as possible. I did hear it was done that way on purpose. . .

Most times the track is designed the night before or the morning of, so it would be tough to get on the website with warning.

What I would recommend to you: Save your breath complaining about the conditions on the USMB and show up at their meetings, have a say. Vollunteer to help set up the course. That's probably your best bet at having any input in how the lay out of the track turns out.

Know that the people who are putting this on are getting tired of vollunteering to do so. Negative feedback will only make them less enthused about working as hard as they do in the future.

I'm with Zap on his comments. Constructive criticism will always get you further toward your goals.

Actually this course was more wide open than most. The early slalom was extremely wide open and the circle turn could be done quickly if you kept the car inside and didn't drift out into the soft stuff where everyone seemed to go. The last portion was so tight primarily because the field is a bit small for good wide-open rallycross; the zig-zags at the end allowed them to squeeze in some extra time at the end so the course didn't appear as short as it really was. Smaller cars will always have an advantage on a tight course (makes up for their lack of power), because the course needs to be open enough for a larger SUV to be able to get around it.

I know ORG is desparately looking for other suitable fields to run. Corvalis might even have a possible site. If you find a field large enough to host an event, you might even get a course close to home as well as one that can be designed with a more wide open layout.

I hope you were able to run the event yesterday at Hillsboro. Paul Eklund normally lays out courses more to your (an my) liking. I couldn't be there and wish I had, but I had more important things on my agenda this weekend. As to the last rallycross event, ORG still has a Nov. 6th date on the books but don't know if that will come off or not.

Ooops, I actually thought that was constructive criticism, I wasn't trying to sound mean. I do appriciate what they are doing and I like to be involved, I just think it would create more involvment if the track was posted on the website for fine tuning by the guys that will be driving on it.
