cricket
My 79 4WD wagon made it fine to work yesterday. But the 4 speed limit got me thinking, I need a 5th gear for cruising, and can I install a 5 speed instead? and what 5 speed would fit this 79 wagon? I believe the 78 woodie (now owned by Mike in Denton TX) had a 5 speed. Any thoughts appreciated about availability, cost, installation problems/tips, etc. Thanks, Ennio in Spring TX. SUBARU3
I changed out one of my wagons. You just need a 5 speed from a 77-79 car and the 5 speed shifter rod. It's longer than the 4 speed. Now this is easy for 2WD, but 4WD is a completely different ballgame and would require major mofifications. I don't know of a gen 1 4WD that has ever been converted. I just bought an extra 5 speed/2WD for $200 that had 54K on it, It's my spare. I found it through www.car-part.com Todd
