Great photo!

I've got one of me in a river where the car is actually floating downstream and running at the same time. Mike W took it.

Great photo! Looks like he was going fishing...but where's the fisherman? Or is he scuba diving?

Yeah after that amazing episode I started calling Eric's Hatch the White Salmon! The dude was literally "swimming" it right up the channel in a whitewater river. (This was under the bridge when you come down from Barlow Pass heading toward Index, for you locals who know where that is.) Water was coming over the hood up to his windshield and was most of the way up to the side windows. There was this big rooster tail behind him from the exhaust. He was making real good progress driving upstream but finally the Hatch floated so much the tires began loosing traction. He'd float downstream a bit then the tires would catch on the tops of some boulders and upstream some more he'd go! I'm not a kayaker but I'd guess this was at least a class 2 rapids. Damn that car was amazing! Making the spectacle even better, some people in a SUV drove over the bridge and looked down seeing this old white Subaru swimming up the river. They parked it and got out and watched with their jaws hangin' open. When Eric was done playing the nice folks gave him a beer and clapped if I remember right. Definitely should have had a video camera for that one! As a side note, I've since heard that rangers frown upon driving in rivers...so uh don't get caught.

We didn't go too that extreme...

Mike did manage to not suck up any water, and drove about 35 miles home after that. When I walked out to get the tow strap all the stuff that was on the floor and seat was floating around in the car. The bad part about it was I was the one who asked the question, "I wonder if we could make it all the way across this puddle." I drove over to it got out figured that the bottom of my dist. came to about the same height as my knee and started to walk out to check how deep it was. As I was making these highly tech. and scienific messurements Mike got a nice wave in front of his hatch and went for it. The rest is history....We had a good time and Mikes hatch from what I could tell was no worse for the wear. Can't wait to go out again.

You can't see my face, but there's a great deal of panic on it. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o"> That few seconds of floating with the wheels spinnig in reverse before they caught traction was prety freaky.
