soobme Posted October 20, 2005 Share Posted October 20, 2005 Hi all! I'm looking for some info on the U-joint rear axle. 1) is the outboard end all 1 pice? (ie: splined stub that the yoke slides onto, or no) 2) is the inboard end of the shaft a male or femail? (ie: are there stubs on the diff., or do the axles slide INTO the diff.) 3) how much can the shaft expand and colapse 1" 2" ect.? captainkettel Posted October 25, 2005 Share Posted October 25, 2005 I have a 1978 4X4 wagon. The rear drive axles DO have u-joints. Lucky for me I have a spare set. Had to change one out a little while back. They are splined on one end and have a 4 bolt plate on the other end. If you would like I have taken a few photos for you to view. I can send the pictures via email. The splined end has a bolt in the center that holds the splines in place.The splines go into the rear pumpkin and the 4 bolt plate bolts to the rear inside wheel. tailgatewagon Posted November 2, 2005 Share Posted November 2, 2005 i miss spoke earlyer... the end that gos to the wheel is held on by 4 bolts the other end has one bolt that gos through the center that holds it on its like a yoke hooked on the end of the stub shaft.
