cmiller Posted November 7, 2005 Share Posted November 7, 2005 So I drove from Corvallis to PIR this morning arriving around 8:30 AM after a good 2 hour dirve, ready to help set up and volunteer my time for this fun event only to see the sign and an empty field. I was pretty bummed to see it cancelled because of poor weather and field condtions. The "weather" this morning was rather pleasent in the warm sunshine as forcasted by all of the weather websites, quite mild in fact. Well, off to check the "condition" of the field, wearing my sunglasses. Field was hard packed and well drained except for a couple of mushy spots the size of my Subaru, which could be easliy avoided with some minor course changes. Anyway I'm just rambling on... This looked like a great day for fall OREGON rallycross. The feild conditions were nothing I havent allready seen at Hillsboro ealier this spring! (ie swampy parking lot and mud up to some axels). I wish the info would have been posted sooner than later so as to prevent alot of people from driving many hours to volunteer at this event. I don't mean this as an attack at anyone, (thanks for the hard work this year organizers), but... this is OREGON and it does rain a bit from time to time, which... could lead to some mud... never stopped us before! GLCraig Posted November 7, 2005 Share Posted November 7, 2005 I think the main issue was that the organizers did not want to risk loosing the location for future events by making the field a muddy mess. There is also the daylight factor. When there is that much mud, lap times are slow and it can be hard to get finished and packed-up before sunset. SuperRallyRoo Posted November 8, 2005 Share Posted November 8, 2005 Ya I was bummed thanks Ed for calling me and telling me it was cancelled before I completely waited threw all that I-5 traffic who knows when it would have started moving! I was within the same exit for about an hour. I just pulled a big illegal U turn across the grassy center when there was a safe time to do so. Lol That was my closest rally experience of the weekend I guess. I stopped at frantic four in tacoma on the way home and talked about rallying with Eric for about 2 hours...
