Guest JwX Posted July 27, 2003 Share Posted July 27, 2003 ok so I replaced the water pump, hoses, thermostat and AF but I can't get the car to warm up enough to open the thermostat(I think) and the af level has not gone down. Guest oobnuker Posted July 27, 2003 Share Posted July 27, 2003 Yes - but for how long? I left my car running once in the garage without the cap on - I was waiting for the thermostat to open. I spaced it and went out like 10 minutes later...there was coolant EVERYWHERE. The cap allows the system to be pressurized, which in turn raises the boiling point of the coolant. Without the cap and the pressure, the coolant will boil much sooner - plus you'll be losing it all over the place. Short answer = NO. Guest oobnuker Posted July 27, 2003 Share Posted July 27, 2003 You could always drive it around a bit until it warms up then check the level? Run the A/C? Rev the motor? I've never had too much trouble by just driving around normally and then checking it a few extra times during the next few days after the refill. Guest JwX Posted July 27, 2003 Share Posted July 27, 2003 I did I went for a ten mile drive and nothing its still didn't go down(the AF level). so I'm just going to drive it to and from work and check it before I go and check it agian when I start to go home. but I think the thermostat is opening cause its not getting any hotter if I just leave it running and I'm getting heat. if anybody else has any ideas go ahead and reply cause I'm all out. and thank you oobnuker for your replys Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest JwX Posted July 27, 2003 Share Posted July 27, 2003 I know I should thank god thats not overheating. but it still bothers me but I think I'm not going to really worry about it that much for right now. btw its on the first line is that normal for one that has all that new stuff on it? it did go up to bout half the gauge before. Guest GBianchi Posted July 28, 2003 Share Posted July 28, 2003 If you've got heat inside and its hot outside and your temp gauge is at the first line then I'd say don't worry be happy:D Wait till winter then if it don't get heat inside your thermostat is stuck open. Guest SubaruJunkie Posted July 29, 2003 Share Posted July 29, 2003 My mechanical temp guage is mounted on the right side of the steering wheel, under the gauge pod, where there is room for a switch... The gauge came with its own mechanical temp sensor, and the adapters needed to adapt it to my intake manifold. Pretty easy and clean installation. It wont do any harm with your thermostat stuck open. Granted I have never bought one for a Subaru, but I have bought them for my Camaros and for some of my friends cars. Yes they are more expensive, but their stuff has never left me stranded.
