Legacy Production Numbers from Subaru USA

Recommended Posts

I Wrote Subaru of USA with an inquiry of the production numbers for the legacys.... Check this out...

Dear Mr. Oppido:

Thank you for visiting the Subaru Web site and for your message! The early

Legacy Turbo models are indeed very rare. I actually have the production

numbers for all the '91 - '94 Legacy Turbo models:

'91 5-speed - 58

'91 automatic - 149

'92 5-speed - 6

'92 automatic - 5

'93 5-speed - 25

'93 automatic - 45

'94 5-speed - 170

'94 automatic - 230

This is a total of 688 vehicles. Yours is one of FIVE 1992 Legacy Turbo

Automatics built that year. Now that is exclusive. Enjoy your new Subaru, and take GOOD care of it because replacing it won't be easy!

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again!

Happy Holidays,

Well i wrote them back explaining that people have some descrepicancys (sp) with subaru's numbers, and what are on the road. this is their response...

Dear Mr. Oppido:

Thank you for your reply. I hope you had a good weekend! The production

numbers are directly from our Distribution Department. They keep permanent

records of vehicles sold. The numbers are what they are. I do not know how

someone outside of Subaru of America, Inc. would have access to our

confidential records to be able to contest this information. I would be

interested in knowing where they are getting their information.

For those years, ALL Subaru models, including Legacy, were still built in

Japan. Of course many more were built and sold in other worldwide markets,

but the numbers I gave you were for the vehicle manufactured and produced

for the US market ONLY. It was not until 1995 that Legacy models were built

in the USA, but again, I would only be quoting you the number of models made

for the US market. Many more were built and sold in Japan, UK, Germany,

Australia, etc.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me again!

Best regards,

Honestly.....Sometimes I think the subaru community has better knowledge then subaru does themself

I've already given my piece on the numbers not being accurate, so I'm not going to bother....

But they once again give incorrect information.

There were most definitely first gen legacies 1990-1994 that were built in the USA. I owned one and stole parts for my swap from it.

You can email Subaru again if you'd like, but I think it's a futile battle.

i know for a fact that SIA was built in 91-92 and started building Legacys in 93-94.

As it was said earlier, "riiiiight"!! When I bought my '94 SS in Albuquerque the end of November, '93, there were about 8 turbo Legacys on the lot, 3 or 4 wagons, and the rest sedans. And the truck they were unloading while I was there had a couple of SSs on it for a total of 10 turbos at that dealership! Since I wanted a 5-speed I only paid attention to the 4 MT sedans they had and bought a white one. Plus Santa Fe and the other dealer in Albuquerque each had at least one. So if the numbers are true New Mexico must have gotten way over their share.

When I bought the car I was told that all the turbo Legacys (in '94 at least) were being built in Japan and the rest here. I've never seen a US built turbo Legacy ('91 - '94) so I believe it is true.

Cheers!
