Not sealing need help?

Recommended Posts

how are the sealing surfaces? Have you check to make sure they are straight? Also the bolt holes tend to get pushed in, good thing to do is to take a ball peen hammer and put the round end on the hole, and smack the other side with a hammer to get the pushed through the other way.

can cause the sealing surfaces to warp. Check to make sure they are straight and use the hammer like Adam says, and you could also put some of that blue liquid gasket maker stuff in to help the standard gasket. When tightening make them snug, like spark plugs should be. You don't have to put your weight into the wrench or anything.

I have found that after making sure the mating surfaces are flat, that using a light coat of Permatex #2 (non-hardening) on both sides of the gasket prevents leaks as well as the silicone, except it doesn't seem to be affected by hot oil over time like some silicone sealers do. Also, you don't want the excess silicone on the inside of your tranny.

dont over torque when using gaskets, as it will squeeze the gasket out as the pan smooshes it apart!.

if using silicone, put some on the pan, start the bolts a couple of turns, and let it set up for a good hour or so before tightening them up.

dont tighten them too much, they will twist off. use a 1/4 drive ratchet for the right torque "feel"
